Phoenix Class: Fall 2016
Major: Architecture
Graduation Year: May 2021

Big Sister: Elaine Zmuda
Little Sister(s):
Dheeksha Ranginani, Aubrie Smith, Jennifer (Raum) Sabatka

ASA Positions: Sunshine Chair (Spring 2017), VP of PR and Recruitment (2019)
Favorite Committee: My favorite committee to be on in ASA is def marketing and recruitment (PR) as being able to be the first person that talks to a potential new sister is so exciting. You're the person that creates a moment in which someone gains interest in our national organization and communicates our values and what we uphold to ourselves. I think that's pretty special and especially seeing the faces when they get really excited and interested; it always makes my day.

Interests & Activities: traveling like crazy; water-coloring and sketching; photography and videography; beginners Swedish; baking; petting furry creatures; kayaking; Order of Omega

Why I Joined: I actually didn't expect to join ASA. I originally did come for the food at the first event but I kept coming back and wanted to join because I saw the ways in which these sisters and this organization really help women on a campus that is so dominated by men. It was so beautiful to see how exactly they would cheer each other on and lift each other up. The connections I made in the first week really pushed me to want to join. I felt seen and heard in a valley of unending noise.

Why I Stayed: I stayed because of the bond I had with so many of my sisters. My big and I connected so fast and the sisters in my Phoenix Class are some of the most amazing people ever. These women have helped me through so many of my hardest moments. College really is a time when you transition and question so many things in life and grow from that. I struggled a lot but they kept me in their arms and helped me through it and now I get to help those that join get through their tough moments. We're really all here for each other.

Phoenix Class: Fall 2016
Major: B.S. Biomedical Engineering (Cell and Tissue Engineering Specialization) and M.S. Chemical Engineering
Minor: Business
Graduation Year: May 2021

Big Sister: Emily Barnett
Little Sister(s): Emily Prentice, Somya Mittal

ASA Positions: Treasurer, Ritual Chair, VP of PR and Recruitment
Favorite Committee: Bid committee! It's so exciting to be able to offer membership into our sisterhood, and heading that committee is definitely one of my favorite responsibilities to fulfill during my term as VP PR and Recruitment.

Interests & Activities: Dancing, reading, learning new languages, traveling, spending time with friends, dressing up, skincare, making things look boujee on a ramen noodle budget :) ; Student Ambassador in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Greek Council, Order of Omega

Why I Joined: I joined because I was looking for a community that could help me reach my full potential in college and support me through the process of growing into the woman I wanted to be. I wanted to find a space that would accept me unconditionally and allow me to make mistakes and learn from them, without feeling like one wrong move would cast me apart from the "clique". Alpha Sigma Alpha's purpose, vision, and mission really resonated with my goals and I felt that by joining the sorority I would find the community and support I was looking for.

Why I Stayed: I found the supportive community I had been hoping for, and beyond that I found some of the best friends a person could have. Throughout my time at Illinois Tech, throughout the ups and downs in classes, work, social life, and everything in between, my sisters have always been there for me. If I was overwhelmed with assignments, or frustrated with myself for some past error, there was always a sister ready to reach out and comfort me with the knowledge that she had been there too, and it gets better. In my high moments, when I surpassed my own expectations and accomplished my goals, they were there to celebrate with me and cheer me on. In my final months here, as graduation day moves ever closer, I know I can look back at my college years and feel satisfied that I spent it in the company of people who truly cared for me and wanted me to succeed.

Minor: Business
Graduation Year: May 2022

Big Sister: Emma Prager
Little Sister(s):

ASA Positions: Sports Chair, VP Programming & Ritual

Favorite Committee: Sports Committee because it’s the only Committee I’ve been on since I joined ASA. I enjoyed helping put together workouts for workout club and coming up with new ways to motivate sisters to stay active and be healthy physically and mentally.

Interests & Activities: tennis, flute, Sudoku puzzles, juggling

Why I Joined: I joined ASA because I really enjoyed the environment. The girls were super nice, and I was close friends with a couple members, so I decided to give it a shot. Initially I was hesitant to join a sorority because it didn’t seem like something I would be interested in when I first came to college, but I’m glad that I did because I have been able to form many meaningful friendships with the other girls.

Why I Stayed: I have stayed in ASA because I am good friends with many of the people in it. Being a member is a nice way to have a social life that isn’t too demanding but that offers you a chance to de-stress from school and connect with other people.

Phoenix Class: Spring 2018
Major: Psychology & Pre-Med Minor
Graduation Year: 2021

Big Sister: Meredith Ludlam
ASA Positions: Junior Greek Council Delegate

Interests & Activities: In addition to ASA, I am involved in MEDLIFE (Medical Education and Development for Low Income Families), AMSA (American Medical Student Association), Camras Scholars, WISP (Women in Science Project), research with one of our psych professors on the impact of note taking methods, and the Undergraduate Admissions Office as a Student Ambassador. Beyond that, some of my favorite things are dancing, petting alpacas, drinking bubble tea and watching cheesy Rom Coms. You can usually find me eating brunch or exploring the city.

Why I Joined: I joined ASA to be a part of a friendly and welcoming community where I could find strong female friendships. I was having a tough time acclimating to college during my first semester, so I wanted to make more friends and find a place that I felt I could belong in. ASA sounded like a good choice because I knew a few people who were already involved, and everyone else seemed great.

Why I Stayed: ASA started as something purely social for me, but grew into a support system that I didn't realize I would come to need. Being around so many motivated and amazing ladies helped me develop better habits and become a better person. My sisters have given me endless advice and love whenever I was stressed or upset about anything.

ASA Positions: Service and Giving Chair

Interests & Activities: I work at the Galvin Library and Walgreens. I'm involved in AMSA (medical club) and Undergraduate Admissions and I look to start a Dance Marathon on campus to raise money for a nearby children's hospital in the near future hopefully. This fall I look to volunteer at a Children's hospital and start undergraduate BME research. I enjoy staying fit, food, memes, facemasks, science, shopping, laughing and art.

Why I Joined: I never would have thought I was going to do Greek Life during high school but then I stayed with ASA for scholarship Symposium (with my big-to be, Sydney Kaplan) and absolutely fell in love and knew it was where I belonged.

Why I Stayed: I have made so many meaningful connections with sisters and other Greek members and has opened many doors for me over time. I love the memories and support system I have been able to form during my time with ASA. It's a great way to make female friends in a male dominated campus and I genuinely hope I maintain the friendships I have made for a lifetime.
